Rehearsal Notes

The practical notes that help songs survive the duo format, preserve Andy's rhythm role, and keep Steve's lead space intact.

Rehearsal Notes

Jamzone testing workflow

  • Start with the core feel and groove.
  • Check whether the song still works in duo format without the original band's extra layers.
  • Confirm the arrangement does not leave long empty sections for Steve and Andy.
  • Mark anything that feels too exposed, too slow, or too key-change dependent.
  • If a song works in Jamzone, move it into the active shortlist and note any arrangement cuts.

Vocal fit notes

  • Steve is the stronger singer, but both singers are limited.
  • Avoid songs that demand polished or exposed vocals.
  • Favor character vocals, groove songs, and songs that can survive a slightly rougher delivery.
  • If a song sits awkwardly in the key, treat that as a major warning sign.

Andy rhythm role

  • Andy is strongest on steady rhythm and off-beat groove.
  • Avoid arrangements that force him into constant key changes.
  • Keep his part clear and repeatable.
  • Reggae-adjacent parts should not dominate the whole set.

Steve guitar / lead role

  • Steve should have room for fills, lead lines, and atmosphere.
  • Songs should reward tasteful guitar work rather than only a straight cover arrangement.
  • Guitar-led songs with a strong mood are usually the best fit.

Arrangement cuts

  • Remove sections that create long non-guitar gaps.
  • Trim repeated instrumental passages if they do not add energy.
  • Aim for forward motion rather than dragging endings.
